"We're very fortunate it happened how it happened," he said.

McKenzie agreed. In the early morning hours, no one had been standing at a window, watching or strolling outside. Indeed, had it happened in the daytime, a work crew of eight would have been busy on an adjacent site and totally vulnerable.

"I would have been one of them," McKenzie said.
